2011-2012 Season

By Michael McKeever
Directed by James Barton

September 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 25*, 30, and October 1.

WHAT: Ongoing, weekend sessions to help our friend Charlie get a grip.
WHY: Charlie Cox has been slipping for a while – his job stinks, romantic prospects have dried up, and general malaise has settled in. Your attendance is necessary to pull him out of this downward spiral! Can we count on you?

We all know life is meant to be lived but Charlie has spent his life just trying to get by. He’s never been in love and never taken a chance but then startling news from his Doctor causes him to hit the road hoping to find meaning in his life. The personifications of Death and Love become his traveling companions in this romantic comedy fantasy. At a broken-down motel in the middle of nowhere, he accidentally stumbles upon the one great love of his life. Fireworks ensue as Love and Death battle for the soul of Charlie Cox. With warmth, humor, and humanity, Charlie Cox Runs with Scissors shows how sometimes all it takes is a little death to help us learn to really live.

Friday and Saturday shows are at 8:00pm. *Sunday show is at 3:00pm.

SYNOPSIS
An American classic, this beautifully drawn memory play takes place in 1930’s St. Louis. Tom, an aspiring poet, toils in a warehouse to support his mother, Amanda, and crippled sister, Laura. The play revolves around Tom’s efforts to escape his stifling home life, and Amanda's efforts to find a husband for the painfully shy Laura.  The drama unfolds the night she convinces Tom to invite a friend to meet, and hopefully woo, Laura. This moving play's themes still apply today.
